School board says farewell to superintendent

It was an emotional moment at the close of Livingstone Range School Board’s June meeting as trustees said farewell to superintendent Darryl Seguin.
Seguin is leaving Livingstone Range for a new position as director and chief executive officer with Sun West School Division in Saskatchewan.
“I would just really like to take this opportunity to thank you,” said Lori Hodges, board chair. “Thank you for your leadership, thank you for your vision, and thank you for working with us. We really appreciate it.”
Seguin began his 20-year tenure with Livingstone Range in 2005 as principal of G.R. Davis School in Fort Macleod.
In 2010, Seguin became principal of Willow Creek Composite High School in Claresholm.
Two years later Seguin moved into central office as an associate superintendent, being promoted to the top job in 2017.
Hodges said the board appreciates everything Seguin has done.
Trustee Clara Yagos, reflecting that she has known Seguin for the first quarter of the 21st Century, echoed Hodges’ comments.
“I really want to thank you for your vision,” Yagos said. “I’ve really enjoyed working with you. It’s been a real pleasure.”
School board vice-chair Lacey Poytress noted when she was first elected as a trustee, Seguin was “acting” superintendent.
“I’ve learned a lot from you in this role as a trustee,” Poytress said. “I appreciate how highly people speak of you, and your integrity.”
Poytress said Seguin’s love for Livingstone Range was evident by his dedication first as a school administrator and later as superintendent.
“You’ve left your mark on this division and on the people,” Poytress said. “Thank you for your time and your service.”
Trustee Kathy Charchun reflected that she met Seguin when he replaced her as principal at G.R. Davis School in Fort Macleod, and how with assistant principal Richard Feller improved that school’s fortunes.
“I thank you for your leadership, and leaving this school division better than you found it,” Charchun said.
Trustee Brad Toone also spoke of Seguin’s dedication and commitment, and wished him well in his new venture.
Trustees Carla Gimber and Greg Long both wished Seguin well.
Seguin said he has been saying goodbye to people in many groups throughout June.
“I thank you for your words. Livingstone Range will always have a place in my heart,” Seguin said. “It’s meant a lot to me and it’s great to see the trajectory where it’s heading.”
Seguin told trustees he will continue to monitor Livingstone Range.
