It was a night of slaps, slams, and suplexes as CanAm Wrestling paid a visit to the Stavely Arena to provide some quality entertainment and raise money for a good cause.
There were seven matches on the card on Saturday night, July 26, providing a little something from every part of the wrestling world.
When the dust settled, $13,000 had been raised for the Stavely Agricultural Society and upgrades to the arena.
Before the action began though, ring announcer and promoter Otto Gentile, asked everyone in attendance to observe a moment of silence and listen to the bell ring 10 times to honour the passing of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan who died earlier this week.
Then it was time to get it on.
The opening match featured Edward Wild III, “The Heart of the North” defeat Travis Cole.
Next up was a tag-team contest featuring the team of “The Cheetahbear” Jude Dawkins and “Big Daddy” Dean Holstein defeating “The Handsome Devils” made up of “Handsome” Cam Hanson and “Devilish” Deven Devlin.
Then the women took the ring as CanAm Women’s Champion Vicky Vicious, “The one your mother warned you about”, retained her title against “Sexy” Samantha Slides.
One of the highlights of the night was a CanAm World Heritage Heavyweight Championship match between challenger “Crude Oil” Cody Mac and champion “Mr. Beefy Goodness” Vance Nevada, won by Mac on disqualification.
After an intermission, the fifth match was a mixed tag team affair with Mexican mini Yoruba and his partner Bruce Rutter going up against Mexican mini La Parkita and his partner Aron Sixx, who won the match.
The Mexifest Men’s Championship was on the line in the next match as challenger “God of Thunder” Andy Anderson, defeated champion Ciclon Ramirez, Jr.
The evening reached a crescendo with its final match, a battle royal.
It started with two wrestlers in the ring then, every 60 seconds, another wrestler entered.
The only way they could be eliminated is when they were thrown over the top rope and they landed with their feet on the floor.
It was frenzied action in all four corners of the ring.
At one point, Cody Mac threw Vance Nevada out of the ring, but it was not over the top rope.
As action continued, and wrestlers were eliminated, Nevada bided his team sitting on the floor outside the ring.
When he re-entered the ring, he eliminated an incredulous Cody Mac to win the match.
Mac protested to Gentile, who told him Nevada had not gone over the top, and was not eliminated.
Nevada then hoisted the spoils of battle – the newly created “Stavely Cattle Country Smackdown” championship belt.
However, the belt does not stay with Nevada, it goes to his sponsor “The Back Lounge and Grill”, where it will hang until the event returns to Stavely.
