Prime minister calls federal election for April 28

Voters across Canada will go to the polls on April 28 to elect a new national government.
Prime Minister Mark Carney visited Governor General Mary Simon on Sunday, March 23, to ask for the dissolution of parliament and a federal election to be held.
Claresholm, Stavely, Granum and the Municipal District of Willow Creek are in the Foothills electoral district.
The current member of parliament for the Foothills constituency is John Barlow of the Conservative Party of Canada, and he is seeking another term.
Other declared candidates in the Foothills riding are:
• Kattie Aurora, New Democratic Party;
• John Bruinsma, Liberal Party of Canada;
• Emma Hoberg, Green Party;
• Paul O’Halloran, People’s Party of Canada.
At dissolution, the Liberals, led by Mark Carney, were a minority government with 152 seats; the Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre held 120 seats; the Bloc Quebeçois led by Yves-François Blanchet held 33 seats; the NDP led by Jagmeet Singh held 24 seats; the Green Party led by Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pedneault held two seats; there were three independents; and four vacant seats.
