Much to do Friday night at museum
By Rob Vogt
One of the highlights of an Old West Jamboree is an old-fashioned carnival.
That will highlight Friday, Aug. 8 at Claresholm’s annual Fair Days weekend, whose theme this year is “Old West Jamboree”.
The day kicks off at 8 a.m. with a Claresholm Food bank pancake breakfast behind Claresholm Pharmacy, running until 10 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m. ATB Financial will host their Round up for a Cause barbecue, running until 1 p.m.
The action then shifts to the grounds of the Claresholm and District Museum for a Country Jamboree.
The museum will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. for everyone to check out the exhibits.
Running from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. will be a cowboy carnival. People can purchase tickets they use to play games and win prize tickets they can then redeem for prizes.
New this year is the pie-slinger showdown starting at 5 p.m. For $1, anyone can get a chance to throw a pie in the face of a town celebrity, such as Mayor Brad Schlossberger. The cost is $1 per pie throw, with all proceeds going back into the community.
Also new this year is a dunk tank from Willow Creek Gymnastics.
Back again at 6:30 p.m. is the tug of war, featuring teams of five going head-to-head. There is no need to register, so teams can just show up.
New this year is the Wagon Wheel Dash wheel barrow races, also starting at 6:30 p.m. Teams of three, with one person in the wheel barrow, will race around a course with the winners earning prizes.
There will be a beer garden hosted by Stavely’s Unique Character House, or SUCH Drama group from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., as well as food trucks.
The evening concludes with a “Dusty Trail Dance” from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with live music by the band Coyote Junction from Lethbridge.
