Florence Husted is the 2025 Stavely Citizen of the Year.
The award was presented during the intermission of the annual Stavely Amateur Rodeo on Saturday, Aug. 23, by Jordie Bronson, exalted ruler of the Stavely Elks, who look after the award.
“The person that was nominated and chosen this year is one that is seen frequently around the area, lending a hand in all sorts of ways,” Bronson said.
“A long-time member of the community, she is a Past Honoured Royal Lady of Stavely Elks Royal Purple Lodge #99 and currently serving as their secretary.
“She has served as secretary of Stavely Municipal Library Board for over 15 years and is currently the chairperson of that board. She is also a member of the Friends of the Stavely Library.
“She has served on the Stavely Community Hall board for many years and still can be found volunteering for just about any event that occurs in this town. She was a staunch member of the Garden Club when it was in operation and has acted on Stavely’s “Celebration” committees over the years.
“Her unwavering dedication has been a wonderful asset to this community as she organizes highway clean-ups, works at casinos and helps with cleaning washrooms at our parks during the winter.
“Please help me to honour and congratulate Florence Husted as our 2025 recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award.”
The award, recognizes people who go above and beyond to make the community what it is, and started back in 1966 as the Danny Flannagan “Sportsman of the Year Award.”
More than 30 years ago, it evolved to become the “Citizen of the Year’ Award and is looked after by the Elks lodge.
