Claresholm museum launches legacy program
By Rob Vogt
The Claresholm and District Museum is asking people to keep them in mind, when people are planning their estates.
The museum recently launched the Claresholm and District Museum Enhancement Fund, which will be used only for upgrades to the museum.
It will not be used for the new building that funds are currently being raised for.
The town owns and maintains the buildings and provides staffing, while volunteers and community donations remain essential to the museum’s operations, programs, and events.
Every contribution to the Claresholm and District Museum Enhancement Fund helps strengthen and enrich the experience it offers.
Contributions to the fund enable the museum to:
• Improve and expand access to the museum’s artifact collection.
• Enhance and expand access to the museum’s archival collection.
• Protect and preserve its collections.
• Upgrade and create new, engaging exhibits.
• Deliver improved educational and visitor programs.
• Increase marketing to attract local and visiting audiences.
• Improve highway signage.
• Grow and train its volunteer team.
• Develop interpretive signs, exhibits, and murals on the museum grounds.
• Complete restoration projects.
• Enhance the museum site overall.
Leaving a legacy can take a number of forms for people. They can:
• Include in their will a bequest to the Claresholm and District Museum Enhancement Fund, which is administered by the Town of Claresholm.
• Leave a legacy gift in recognition of a family or family member.
• Make a legacy contribution at any time to honour a person, family, or event.
In turn, donours will receive a charitable tax receipt; and be recognized on the museum website, social media, and on their donor recognition plaque in the museum.
Barry Gibbs, chair of the museum board, asks the public to keep the museum in mind when making financial plans.
“You can build a legacy and enhance the museum,” he said.
