RCMP recover stolen property, lay charges

A Stavely man is facing several charges after the RCMP recovered stolen property following a suspicious vehicle investigation.
On Nov. 15 , the police issued a release stating on Nov. 6, 2024 at about 10:45 p.m., the High River RCMP responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle that appeared to be lurking and checking out other vehicles.
The RCMP quickly responded to the area and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled from police and was located abandoned a short distance later.
As police continued their search for the suspect, they were alerted to a report of a freshly stolen vehicle from within the area.
With the assistance of numerous police resources including air support provided by Calgary Police through, HAWCS, the newly stolen vehicle was located.
Following the deployment of a tire deflation device, the suspect was arrested without further incident.
Charles Wadman, a 25- year- old male from Stavely, has been charged with:
•Two counts of failure to stop for a peace officer while being pursued.
• Two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
• Two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
• Two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
• One count of trespass by night.
• Seven counts of failure to comply with release conditions.
• Numerous Traffic Safety Act offences.
Wadman was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded. His next court appearance is on Nov. 22, 2024, at the Alberta Provincial Court of Justice in Okotoks.
It was noted High River RCMP has seen an increase in stolen vehicles, and thefts from vehicles. The majority of these events involve vehicles that have been unlocked, with valuables left inside. Residents are encouraged to do the following:
• Never leave keys in a vehicle, or leave a vehicle warming up with keys in the ignition.
• Ensure no items are visible in a parked vehicle and remove all valuables.
• Do not leave garage door openers in vehicles.
• Double check vehicles are locked and garage doors are closed at the end of the day.
