High school distance runners have solid season

By Rob Vogt

The Wilow Creek Composite High School cross-country running team was small but mighty, turning in some solid times during their season.
The team went to three runs this year.
The Bullhorn Run was at Kainai on Sept. 27, where Minnie Toone won bronze in her age category and Coach Michelle Watt brought home a silver medal.
Participants were also asked to wear orange shirts in observance of Orange Shirt Day.
The team then headed to districts at the Cottonwood Campground just outside of Pincher Creek where Piikani hosted on Wednesday, Oct. 2.
The senior boys shone, as Rylen Guitton was first; Syler Sabey was second; and Henry Leishman was third.
All the junior high runners came home with a ribbon as well.
At zones in Medicine Hat on Wednesday, Oct. 9, Watt said everyone ran great.
Hayden Kohinsky came home with a silver medal, sending him to provincials, while Syler Sabey qualified as an alternate for provincials.
On Saturday, Oct. 19, Kohinsky travelled to Grande Prairie to run in provincials.
Watt said it was a gruelling course, and it had rained all day. Kohinsky crossed the finish line very wet, but eighth in the province.
