August 23, 1926 – December 29, 2023

Phyllis Annie Cotter (Peters) passed away peacefully December 29, 2023 at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, with her daughters by her side, at the age of 97.
Phyllis was born August 23, 1926 in Capel, Surrey England. Her family later moved to Beare Green, Surrey where she worked during the war sewing officers’ uniforms. It was there she met the love of her life Laurence Cotter of the 69th Tank Transport Company, who was stationed in the area. After a few years of writing letters, and when she was old enough to leave home, she bought a one-way ticket to Canada May 3, 1948. Her and Laurence were married shortly after on June 5, 1948 at the Anglican church in Claresholm and lived on their ranch up Meadow Creek west of Claresholm, where she remained for the next 69 years. One year after she arrived to Claresholm, the rest of her family sold their place in England and they all moved out to the ranch.
She is survived by her wonderful brother Art of Pincher Creek; children Garry (Nola) of Claresholm, Marlane (Larry) of Claresholm, and Karen (Roy) of Stavely; seven grandchildren: Hope, Nolan (Kacey), Quely (Kaitlyn), Delane (Paige), Byron (Mandy), Brandon (Jacquelyn), Randal (Abby); and eight great-grandchildren: Oakley, Hazen, Tave, Jed, Josie, Roy, Tessa, and Tyson. As well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Phyllis, sister Winnie, brother Vic, and her husband Laurence in 1996 who she missed dearly.
Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies such as sewing, baking, painting, and gardening. Whether she was out working in the fields, carpentering, painting pictures and clocks, or making teddy bears for new babies, she was always busy doing something and could do almost anything. She was a member of the Meadow Creek ladies club as well as the Legion in Claresholm. She loved to attend local dances, spend time with neighbours, and her door was always open to anyone for a coffee and a good visit. Phyllis especially loved her grandchildren, and great grand-children and would spoil them at any chance she could get. They will miss her very much.
At Phyllis’ request there will be no funeral service held, but a private family gathering will be held at a later date. We would like to thank the staff at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre for their care of Phyllis.
