Junior “A’ hockey is coming to Claresholm and the new team is holding a contest to pick a name for the team.
The National Junior “A’ Hockey League announced on May 8 that it has come to terms on a facility agreement with the Town of Claresholm.
The addition of Claresholm to the league’s South Division, with league play to commence in the 2024-2025 hockey season, represents a great opportunity to expand into a vibrant community with longstanding support for hockey.
It was noted the expansion team will be playing at the Claresholm Arena, which features an incredible ice surface, concession, dedicated home team stalled dressing room, and other amenities.
“We are so excited about locating a new team in Claresholm. The great location and facility will no doubt aid in the recruiting process and offer an excellent environment for our elite, full-time athletes to develop as they follow their goal to play at the collegiate and professional levels,” said an official statement from the league.
“Claresholm town council is excited to announce that the town and the National Junior Hockey League are bringing Junior ‘A’ hockey to Claresholm this fall. We are proud they have chosen to expand in Claresholm, and we hope everyone comes out to support the team,” said Brad Schlossberger, mayor of Claresholm.
On May 23, the league announced the Claresholm Junior “A” hockey club and Vulcan Rampage Junior “A” hockey club are going to be putting on a summer identification camp on June 29 and 30 in Cochrane.
