The Willow Creek Composite High School junior high “B” girls volleyball team took third last week in their home tournament.
The Cobras hosted five teams in a tournament on Friday, Oct. 4.
In round-robin play, they split with F.P. Walshe of Fort Macleod, losing 25-13 then rebounding to win 25-19.
The Cobras also split with Crowsnest Consolidated High School of the Crowsnest Pass, winning 25-16 then losing 25-16.
The results put Claresholm in second place in Pool A, and a quarter-final match against the Matthew Halton High School Hawks of Pincher Creek.
The Cobras won that quarter-final match, advancing to the semi-finals against J.T. Foster of Nanton, who finished first in Pool B.
Nanton won that match in straight sets by scores of 25-9 and 25-9.
The Cobras still had an opportunity at finishing third, if they defeated Crowsnest Consolidated in the third-place game.
The Cobras won the first set by a score of 25-19, but the Pandas re-grouped to win the second set by a score of 25-22, to force a third and deciding set to 15 points.
The Cobras took control early and won 15-9 to win the match 2-1 and take third place.
