August 31, 1940 – January 13, 2023
Dick Perks, of Nanton, AB, passed away peacefully at the High River Hospital on January 13, 2023 from lung cancer.
He is survived by his best friend and special partner, Karen Crawford. His daughter Kelly (Mark) Fox and their daughters, Bailey (Daniel) Craig and Sydney Fox. His son Chris (Veronique) Perks and their daughters, Nicole and Isabelle Perks. His sister Jo (Phil) Knox and their children Dave (Marnie) Knox, Keri Knox, Tracey (Dan) La Fleur and their families. Karen’s children Sean (Megan), Jody (Mark), Hung (Cheryl), Mike (Mindi) and their families.
Dick was born to Robert (Bob) and Doris Perks in Montreal, QC. At age six the family moved to Shawinigan where Bob was employed by Dow Chemicals. Always the entrepreneur, Dick kept busy with painting, woodworking jobs and driving trucks. After high school, he attended University of New Brunswick in the Forestry Faculty. Summers were spent clearing and planting trees, surveying and enjoying the outdoors. He met and married his wife, June and they moved to Pierrefonds, QC. He was employed at Montreal Engineering. They moved to Calgary, AB in 1972 and he worked for Calgary Power. Eventually, they moved to the Okotoks, and then the Nanton area.
Dick and Karen have shared their lives on the acreage west of Nanton for 18 years. Dick established his canoe building and restoration business. His woodworking talents will be remembered by many… new homes, benches, Christmas creches, toy guns and knives, stilts, paddles, cabinets and special projects.
Dicks’ life was full. He enjoyed fishing, wintering in Mexico, riding his horse, Scout, and watching the wildlife out the kitchen window. He donated four canoes as fund raisers to NAPS, High River Scots, Fernie Fish & Wildlife, and the Nanton Bomber.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Animal Shelter or share some memories with a friend. Music and memories were shared on January 21, 2023 at the Mark (Kelly) Fox farm. A memorial service was held at the Nanton Christ Anglican Lutheran Church on January 29, 2023.
Cremation was facilitated by Mcinnis & Holloway Funeral Home at Fish Creek, Calgary, AB.
