Munro, Randy Alan

It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Randy Alan Munro. Randy was born in Bassano, Alberta on October 12, 1955 and died suddenly on November 16, 2023 at the age of 68.
Randy grew up in Granum, and was part of the pack of kids playing football, baseball and hockey in his early years.
In his teens Randy and some buddies started a band . . . “Black Dawn”! They practiced in his mom and dad’s basement, very loudly! They played heavy metal/rock and roll, for dances and some events. In their early twenties, Black Dawn did some touring with Ron Sakamoto as their promoter. They played in venues from B.C. to Saskatchewan. They even did some live shows on the radio station that Ed Goodliffe set up in his house in Granum.
They discovered not a lot of money was being made so “the boys” decided they had to give up their band and get real jobs to pay the bills. It was probably one of the best of times in Randy’s life, as music and his guitar were very important to him.
Randy started with the Wheat Pool construction crew and worked for many years travelling around the province doing repair work on elevators. His home base was Calgary and that is where his two boys were born. They were the pride of his life and Randy was a very proud dad and was thrilled when he became a grandpa.
When the Wheat Pool sold to Viterra he was without a job. Randy then started working for a company in Calgary that did commercial carpet cleaning and he did the repair work on the vehicles and the machines housed in the vehicles. In 2015 he finally said, “It is time for me” and retired.
Randy spent many, many hours supporting his kids and grandkids in whatever they were doing. He loved watching his grandson Jevan play lacrosse, and even though he never did understand all the rules, he cheered loudly and often. In February of this year Randy moved to Sylvan Lake to be closer to his kids and grandkids.
Randy was always ready for family get togethers and loved teasing the little kids. He had a great sense of humour.
Randy is survived by his son Nick, his wife Taren and their children Jevan, Miya and Sasha; and son Greg. He is also survived by his sisters Donna Schwindt, Sharon Monical and Janice Munro and brothers Brad and Dallas. Randy will also be missed by his niece, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.
Rnady was predeceased by his dad and mom, Alan and Rose Munro, his sister Brenda Sanders, brother-in-law Jim Sanders, and brother Barry Munro.
No service will be held, he will be laid to rest in the Granum cemetery.
May there be a “Rock and Roll” band in heaven!
