The voters of Claresholm have elected a new mayor but the race for the vacant town council seat has gone to a recount.
The Town of Claresholm held a byelection on Sept. 18, where Brad Schlossberger was elected mayor with 569 votes. He had been a town councillor until he resigned in order to run for mayor.
Lon Hall, a newcomer to municipal politics, finished second with 376 votes.
The vote for the open town council seat is still not determined.
After the results on Monday night, Diana P. Ross won with 300 votes, while Shaun MacPherson had 296 votes, Chris Dixon got 177 votes, and Ryley Jodoin got 159 votes.
However, due to the close nature of the vote for councillor, the returning officer scheduled a recount of ballots for councillor.
Results do not become official until noon on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023.
