Our shepherd is laid to rest.
(Stanley) Ross Mouser. a lifelong resident of Claresholm. passed peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023 at the age of 90.
For all, but a few of, those years he lived and worked on the Salmon-Mouser farm, shepherding it to an Alberta Century Farm Award in 2007 for 100 years of continuous family operation. He served and/or lead the boards of several organizations including the Canadian Cooperative Woolgrowers, Canadian Sheep Breeders Association, Alberta Sheep and Wool Commission, and the Sheep Committee of the Calgary Stampede.
Ross’ abundant moustache made him easily recognizable whether he was on the streets of Claresholm, judging livestock at a major event like the Royal Winter Fair, or attending activities related to Freemasonry. His commitment as a leader and volunteer earned him recognition that included being a Life Member of the Calgary Stampede and many masonic honours. Until his later years, Ross remained active as a leader in many masonic organizations across the province including holding chairs in the Scottish Rite, Royal Arch, Royal Order of Scotland, and the Chinook Arch District.
Ross is survived by his loving wife Marilyn (nee Murdoch); sons Scott (Danette) and Doug (Julia); grandchildren Lauren, William, Shayla and Angus; sister Joyce (Maurice) Coughlin, and brother Allan (Betty) Mouser. Ross is predeceased by this sister Joan Honecker and brother Jim Mouser.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Zentner Funeral Homes – Claresholm, AB at 1:00 P.M.
Please send donations to Claresholm and District Health Foundation, an organization that helped Ross rediscover the joy of a bike ride so late in life.
