It is with sadness that the family of Ron Hanson announces his passing in the early morning of March 4, 2023.
Ron was born in Trochu, Alberta on September 8, 1947. He attended school at Prairie Bible Institute where his dad was a staff member. He left PBI school in grade 11 and graduated from Trochu High School. He trained as an airplane mechanic at Field Aviation in Calgary until he realized how often older mechanics were laid off and decided to attend university instead. He entered the University of Alberta in 1974 attending for five years obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree and and a Bachelor of Education. He met his wife, Fran and was married in 1973 in Edmonton. His daughter Heather Dawne was born in 1974. He moved to Granum in 1979 to begin teaching at Granum School, teaching a per-vocational class for two years. He then began teaching grade nine English and Science. He retired from teaching in 2007.
He was predeceased by his mother Isabel Hanson in 2005 and his father Sandy Hanson in 2009 He will be fondly remember by his sisters Lorraine Raaf (Gerry), Bev Thompson (Tom), Hazel Mason (Ken) and his two brothers Darrel Hanson (Nancy) and Brian Hanson (Alexis). He will be remembered fondly by his students, many that say Mr. Hanson was their favourite teacher.
Ron got involved in town politics serving one term as mayor and many terms on council. He also served on many of the town committees. He attended the Baptist Church in Claresholm for many years, but his love for the Granum community made him leave the Baptist Church and get involved in the Lutheran Church in his Granum. He played his keyboard and helped with worship. He also served on the church council for many years.
He will be missed by his family and his whole community that loved and valued him.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Granum Lutheran Church – 204 Grey Street, Granum, Alberta at 2:00pm. with Pastor Donna Alm officiating.
