Cobra athletes star for Chinook all-star girls’ basketball team

The stars of the Chinook Basketball League were on display Wednesday, March 22, at F.P. Walshe school in Fort Macleod.
The league held its annual high school girls’ all-star game, with the white team beating the dark team 77-53.
The white team was made up of Sloane Grier, Tess Provost and Lalaine Mendoza of the F.P. Walshe Flyers; Regan McRae, Leah Smith and Kate Zoratti of the St. Michael’s Dragons of Pincher Creek; Erin Wolf Child and Mackenzie Wells of the Kainai Warriors; and Hannah Smith and Anna Carey of the County Central Hawks of Vulcan.
Coaches were Alan McRae of St. Michael’s and Aimee Sandham of F.P. Walshe.
The dark team’s roster included Gianna Gammie, Faith Lundberg and Amy Wright of the J.T. Foster Raiders of Nanton; Lydianna O’Neil, Mya Auld and Anastasia Skelliter of the Willow Creek Composite Cobras of Claresholm; Kesley Meichkota and Emily Acheson of the Coalhurst Trojans; and Presley LeJan and Melia Leishman of the Matthew Halton Hawks of Pincher Creek.
Coaches were Brent Gammie from J.T. Foster and Tristyn Warburton from Willow Creek Composite.
The dark team opened a 21-12 lead in the first quarter as Gammie and O’Neil each scored six points.
The white team rallied to take a 31-29 lead at halftime by scoring 19 points in the second quarter while holding the dark team to eight.
By the end of the third quarter the dark team had pulled into a 50-50 tie.
A dominating fourth quarter gave the white team the win as they scored 23 points while holding the dark team to two to win 77-53.
Anna Carey led the white team with 16 points and Tess Provost also hit double figures with 10.
Lalaine Mendoza and Mackenzie Wells each had nine points for the white team, Regan McRae had eight, Sloane Grier had seven, Kate Zoratti and Erin Wolf Child each had six, Leah Smith had four and Hannah Smith had two.
Anastasia Skelliter was top scorer for the dark team with 16 points and Lydianna O’Neil had 12.
Gianna Gammie had nine, Faith Lundberg had seven, Melia Leishman had four, Presley LeJan had three and Kesley Meichkota had two.
