Claresholm set to celebrate Canada Day
By Rob Vogt
Centennial Park will come alive with the sights and sounds of Canada Day celebrations as the community gets ready to celebrate the 156th birthday of the country.
Megan McClung, engagement coordinator for the Town of Claresholm, has a lot planned for the day.
Starting at 11 a.m., a colour guard made up of members of the Royal Canadian Legion, fire department and RCMP will raise the flag.
Accompanying the flag raising will be local singing sensation and music teacher Michelle Dedominicis singing “O Canada”. Joining her will be Armani Scott, one of her students, and they will be singing the national anthem in English and French.
McClung said the goal is to celebrate all cultures that make up Canada.
To that end, the day will once again feature “Spread the World”, a celebration of diversity and culture in Claresholm.
There is much more to see and do as well.
There will be a big water fight, with the fire department on hand to create the atmosphere for the water fight. So people are encouraged to bring their bathing suits.
Entertainment will include Guava Jam, a Caribbean steel drum band, and Breanne Urban, who has recorded her first album in Nashville, played at the Calgary Stampede, and opened for Rascal Flats, Terri Clark, and Keith Urban.
The Claresholm Skatepark association will be hosting a beer garden; there will be sparkle tattoos, a face painter, games, and a food truck.
The Town of Claresholm is also putting on a barbecue, featuring hamburger, hot dogs, pop, chips and cotton candy, with all proceeds going to Fair Days activities.
Town representatives will also be passing out Canada Day cupcakes, and the first 50 people in attendance will get some Canada Day swag.
