Black, Denton Floyd

August 6, 1941 – Grande Prairie, Alberta
January 13, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of our father Denton Black and beloved husband to his late wife Christa Black of Claresholm, Alberta. Denton passed peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the age of 81 years with his daughters by his side in Calgary, Alberta.
Denton had a successful career as a welder/inspector, supervisor, and superintendent that spanned across Canada from working on bridges in BC, to offshore oil rigs in Nova Scotia and a start-up of Syncrude in Fort McMurray, AB. Eventually moving and opening his own welding/fabrication shop in Penticton, BC until he retired in southern Alberta. He loved all things nature; dogs, frogs, a friendly moose or goose, turtle ponds, pot and a natural water preserve or two. He tried to perfect the sports of billiards and golf because he hated to lose, even to himself. But he did enjoy winning crib tournaments and letting everyone know when he won. His love of motorcycles, specifically Harley Davidson resulted in two broken shoulders and a broken neck, but he gave up that “never say never” attitude right until the end. Denton was predeceased by his parents Valera and Floyd Black; wife Christa; granddaughter Karl Johnston; sister-in-law Francis Black; and brother-in-law James Whitehead.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Pouce Coupe, BC to return Denton to his home. Denton will be laid to rest with Christa at an internment at the Riverside Cemetery. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Denton’s family through www.evanjstrong.com.
