Parade going ahead; theme announced
By Rob Vogt, Local Press Writer
The Claresholm Fair Days parade will return to the streets of Claresholm with a very special theme.
David Poulsen, engagement coordinator for the Town of Claresholm, is organizing the parade and has announced the theme for the event which takes place at
11 a.m. on Saturday,
Aug. 14. The theme will be “Wings Over Claresholm” to coincide with the opening of the Claresholm and District Museum’s new exhibit of the same name opening the same day.
Poulsen said “Wings Over Claresholm” has another meaning.
He observed the theme also symbolizes Claresholm taking flight as it emerges from the pandemic of the past 17 months.
Poulsen also is encouraging people to enter floats in the parade.
Anyone interested in participating is asked to be at the muster point – Highway 520 West, across from the Fire Hall – at 9:30 a.m. that morning. Judging will take place at 10 a.m. and the parade will get underway at 11 a.m.
Last year, the format of the parade was altered to a drive-by event with stationary floats, in order to limit public gatherings to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This year will return to the old format and route.
Anyone interested in participating in this year’s parade has to register in advance and can do so by phoning David Poulsen at 403-682-9430 or by e-mailing engagement@claresholm.ca (no dashes or spaces).
