It was a come-from-behind win for the Claresholm Fire Department in a recent Movember fundraising contest.
For the entire month of November, the Town of Claresholm staff and Claresholm RCMP teams battled back and forth for the lead, but in the end the fire department came up the middle.
“You guys pulled through on the last day,” said Holly Gillespie, of Claresholm and District Family and Community Support Services who put on the contest.
She visited the fire hall on Thursday night, Dec. 2, to present the fire department with their prize – a gift basket of goodies.
A total of $3,295 was raised with the fire department raising about $1,200. The Town of Claresholm and Claresholm RCMP team each raised about $905. The Willow Creek Composite High School team raised the
remainder.
“The community was phenomenal with their donations,” Gillespie said.
“It was awesome,” she later added.
It was all part of Movember, an event spanning the month of November, to raise funds and awareness of prostate and testicular cancer as well as men’s mental health and suicide prevention.
“We wanted to bring the community together in a safe, socially distanced way,” Gillespie said.
Proceeds went to the Movember foundation, and anyone interested in more information can visit www.movember.com.
