M.D. moves forward after Granum dissolution
The Municipal District of Willow Creek has begun the process of welcoming Granum residents into the M.D. after receiving official word the Town of Granum has dissolved and become a hamlet within the M.D.
At its Feb. 12 meeting, M.D. council was updated on Granum’s dissolution and what the M.D. did to communicate with residents about what is next.
The provincial government issued an order in council on Jan. 28, dissolving the Town of Granum effective Feb. 1.
A vote was conducted by Municipal Affairs on Nov. 6 and 7. A total of 254 valid ballots were counted, with 26 per cent supporting remaining a town and 74 per cent voting to dissolve and become part of the M.D. of Willow Creek.
Granum now becomes part of Division 2 within the M.D., which is currently represented by John Kroetsch.
Derrick Krizsan, the M.D.’s chief administrative officer, informed council the M.D. crafted a Granum dissolution newsletter.
It was delivered door-to-door in person to Granum residents, using eight staff members and taking about two hours to cover the town.
“It was very well received,” Krizsan said.
“I heard a lot of nice things from the citizens,” Kroetsch added.
“It’s a good signal,” Krizsan said. “What’s happening there is important to us.”
