The final design drawings for upgrading downtown Amundsen Park have been completed and were recently reviewed by Claresholm town council.
At its May 25 meeting by video conference, council looked at the drawings as part of a presentation made by Marian Carlson, the town’s chief administrative officer.
She referred to a report prepared by Tara Van Dellen, the town’s development officer, explaining the landscape architect has been working through the winter on detailed design plans to assist with phased construction and upgrades to Amundsen Park.
The drawings have been circulated to the park committee for review and comments as well.
The Kinsmen and Lions Clubs both have grant applications pending for components of the park and construction of those may commence in the spring of 2021 if successful.
Additional funding sources and partnerships will be sought out and other phases, and components, will be discussed during budget discussions moving forward. This proposed phasing plan may change or be completed non-consecutively according to resources/budget discussions.
Phase 1
1) Playground, in partnership with the Kinsmen;
2) Gazebo, in partnership with the Lions club;
3) Minor planting, with funds from a tree grant.
Phase 2

2) Utility re-location and upgrades to the bathroom building and storage room;
3) Plaza area/covered stage and trellis, with grant applications and partnerships still being sought;
4) Any plantings that budget allows, and an application will be made to a tree planting grant.
Phase 3
1) North side angle parking;
2) Stroll/sculpture garden;
3) Water feature;
4) Paths/fencing;
5) Plantings.
