Wong, Carlos

Carlos Wong, 83, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary, Alberta on March 16, 2019, surrounded by his family. Born in Canton, China, he began his adventures in Hong Kong and continued to British Honduras, Vancouver, Calgary, Red Deer, and finally settling in Claresholm. While raising his family in Claresholm, he operated Hawleys Restaurant for four years, then Lucky Meat Market for 22 years. He worked hard and built long-lasting friendships with many of his customers who became cherished friends. He spent 43 years as a proud resident of Claresholm and retired there in 1999, later moving to Calgary to be closer to his children. He and Ada enjoyed wonderful visits with their many friends in the local coffee shops. His wish was always to retire and remain in Claresholm.
Carlos was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather who loved his wife, four children, and seven grandchildren. His love was evident in all that he did for, and with his family. His time was spent taking his family on road trips, outings to enjoy the outdoors, celebrating holidays and milestones, and always enjoying delicious food together. His love for travel and adventure continued after retirement, as he and Ada visited places across Canada as well as China, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and New York. Carlos was a wonderful friend to all and cared for all whom he met. He was always so kind and generous. His home became a home to many, and his dinner table became a place where so many friends, international guests, and family have gathered over the decades.
Carlos will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Ada; his children, Robert (Mimi), Sheldon (Teresa), Tina (Mike), Bonnie (Garth); his grandchildren, Erin, Thomas, Emily, Maya, Aiden, Lucas, and Avery; his brother-in-law Eddy (Sabrina) Wong, sister-in-law Sharon Leong of Vancouver, and several nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend a special thank you to his medical team: family doctors, Dr. George Gish, Dr. Mark Stubbs, and Dr. Marc Klasa; cardiologist since 2001, Dr. Debra Isaac; and oncologist of 20 years, Dr. Walter Blahey, and their staff for the wonderful care they provided him over the years. Also, we would like to extend our deep appreciation to Marya Bellotto and her palliative care team for their loving care and support over the last few months.
Visitation will be on March 22, 2019, from 6 – 8 P.M., and a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Foster’s Garden Chapel & Crematorium, 3220 4 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Claresholm & District Health Foundation, Box 2638, Claresholm, AB, T0L 0T0.
