August 20, 1955 – April 24, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Rick Helmer announces his passing on April 24, 2019 in Claresholm, Alberta at the age of 63. Born to Shirley and Walter Helmer of Claresholm, the 4th of 5 children, Rick had a strong presence with his quick wit and “tell it like it is” outlook on life. Rick was an avid outdoorsman spending many seasons camping, hunting and fishing, often with his beloved father, his best friend and his brother Dave and his much loved grandson Eric. He also enjoyed painting, creating watercolor landscapes and scenes that illustrated his love of nature.
Rick was born a storyteller, eagerly waiting to entertain his friends and family with exaggerated but true tales that had them in stitches or shaking their heads in disbelief. It is these memories that his friends and family will cherish, with tears but smiles and laughter as well.
Rick was predeceased by his father Walter in 1986. He is survived by his mother Shirley Bentham (nee Sparkes), siblings Larry (Elaine) of Stettler, Susan, Cathy (Jerry) Kinoshita and Dave (Brenda) all of Claresholm, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held at the
Claresholm Community Centre (5920-59th Ave W, Claresholm, AB) on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 2:00 P.M.
