The Claresholm detachment of the RCMP has a new commander, who brings a wealth of experience to the job.
Sergeant Greg Stannard started his new posting on June 11, taking over for the recently retired Sergeant Terry Wickett.
“The community has been more than welcoming,” he said of Claresholm, noting he enjoys small town life and feeling of community.
Born and raised in Calgary, he joined the RCMP in 2002 and has worked in Leduc, Viking, Cochrane, and most recently Red Earth Creek where he was detachment commander.
It was his five years in Viking where he learned about small town life and enjoyed it.
He looks forward to coming to another place with that same atmosphere.
“This is a good fit,” Stannard said.
Coincidentally, Stannard worked in Claresholm 30 years ago, in a previous career, where he worked on the construction of the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre.
Now, he is back and looking forward to his new job.
“I have a good group of guys,” he said of the seven-member detachment, as well as the office staff.
He also appreciates having an experienced Corporal in Dalyn Orsten who has years of valuable time and service.
“That’s nice,” Stannard said.
His goal is to get to know the community and keep a good strong connection and relationship between the community and the police.
Stannard is married with two adult children, and enjoys hobbies such as fishing, camping and golfing.
