Nylen, Kenneth Robert

December 19, 1930 – April 12, 2018

Kenneth Robert Nylen was born on the farm home at Marchwell, Saskatchewan.  He was the youngest of 12 children born to Fred and Marie Nylen.  Ken was predeceased by his daughter Linda, his parents, seven brothers and four sisters.

Ken passed away peacefully at home April 12th.  He loved the promise of spring and its call to the garden always appreciating the gifts from the soil.

Ken grew up on the farm at Erickson, Manitoba.  He went to country school to Grade eight.  He farmed first with horses then tractors.  He worked as a carpenter becoming very skilled at the trade.  He later worked at the Pulp Mill in Dryden, Ontario as a millwright for a total of 30 years.

His hardworking, caring hands were always busy.  He built homes for his family and cottages on the lakeside.  The outdoors hunting and fishing with family and friends were enjoyed.  On retirement, he developed skill on the wood lathe turning out bowls of all sizes.  Self taught he read the wood so patterns appeared.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Joan.  His son Keith (Joy) Duncan, B.C., son Larry (Val), grandsons Andrew and Ken (Stacey), granddaughter Adele and two great grandsons Gavin and Logan Nylen.

Family was all important with Ken caring for his parents, wife and children, always keeping close ties with his siblings’ families and in-laws.  A temporary move to Claresholm became a comfortable home for 24 years enjoying good friendship and card games.

Ken was a kind gentle man we looked to for guidance and support.  He will be greatly missed but well remembered.

There will be no service at his request.  A family gathering will be planned later.  Interment of Ken’s Cremated Remains will be at Dryden, ON at a future date.

If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House, a charity of your choice or just give someone “a helping hand”.
