Cobras win zone opener

The Willow Creek Composite High School senior varsity girls basketball team opened the South Zone championship with a convincing win earlier this week.
The Cobras travelled to Lethbridge College for the 2A South Zone championships and defeated Crowsnest Consolidated High School of the Crowsnest Pass by a score of 81-47 in their opener on Monday, March 5.
Scoring for the Cobras were Kelby Keeley with 27 points; Kayla Minor with 18 points; Emily Chartrand with 14 points; Katie Hart with 10 points; Tia Woodruff with five points; Kailey Brunet with four points; and Katie Hoffman with three points.
The Cobras’ next game is Wednesday, March 7 (tonight), at 6:45 p.m. at Lethbridge College against Kainai.
Claresholm wrapped up their regular season with two home games last week.
They hosted the Picture Butte Queens on Feb. 26, losing by a score of 81-42.
The top scorers for the Cobras were Keeley with 12 points; Woodruff with eight points; and Hart with six points.
The junior varsity team was also in tough, losing by a score of 59-28.
The top scorers for the juniors were Selena Anderson with 11 points; Capri Mitchell with seven points; and Woodruff with six points.
The Cobras’ final game of the regular season was March 1, when they host Kate Andrews of Coaldale, losing by a score of 60-38.
The top scorers for the Cobras were Hart with 11 points; Keeley with eight points; and Woodruff with six points.
The junior varsity played tough too, before losing by a scre of 41-27.
The top scorers for Claresholm in that game were Anderson with 10 points; Kitty Fox with nine points; and Woodruff with six points.
