Cobras grind out win over Myers; advance to provincial finals
The Willow Creek Composite High School Cobras advanced to their third Tier-4 provincial football final in four seasons with a hard-fought 21-9 win over arch-rival W.R. Myers of Taber last Saturday, Nov. 18, in Claresholm.
With the win, the Cobras set themselves for the sweetest road trip in high school football; a trip to the Alberta Bowl in Lacombe for a shot at a provincial title, this time against the Cold Lake Royals. Cold Lake got to the Big Dance by beating Stettler 28-22 last Friday night. The Royals had a tough stretch in the middle of the season, losing five games in a row, before winning their last three “win or go home” games, so they are peaking at the right time.
The championship game will be played at MEGlobal Field, which is adjacent to Lacombe Composite High School. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25.
