Binmore named Stavely citizen of the year

Someone fairly new to the community who has done a great deal in a short time is the 2017 Stavely Citizen of the Year.
Janice Binmore was presented with the honour by Blaine Hoffarth, exalted ruler of the Stavely Elks, during the intermission of the annual Stavely Amateur Rodeo on Saturday, Aug. 26.
Hoffarth read from the nomination letter sent to the Elks, explaining Binmore and her husband Mike moved to Stavely and dug in their heels to help with many activities.
Binmore is on town council where she is involved in a variety of activities.
“(Binmore) is always up for a challenge,” Hoffarth read. “Everywhere I look, there she is helping or doing kind deeds. She has helped at different functions at the Stavely Golden Age Centre, setting up, cleaning up, whatever needs done.
“She loves to golf and enjoys our golf course and belongs to the ladies’ league.
“When the museum needed a renovation, who was there almost 24/7? Janice was. She even had a desk set up where she did hours and hours of research and fixed displays.”
Binmore has also taken food to different people, and teaches woodworking for the passion projects at Stavely Elementary School.
She was also part of the Junior ATB program to teach children about banking at the school, being one of their most constant customers and help children hone their banking skills.
“I feel she really deserves this honour from our community, which she has taken under her wing,” Hoffarth read.
“She was not a native resident when she came here, but she is home in Stavely.”
