Cates, Darla

The family of Darla Cates announces with heavy hearts her passing on
June 5, 2025, in High River, Alberta, at the age of 83 years.
Born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan to James and Muriel MacKinnon.
Darla is predeceased by her sole mate/her husband Arthur. (when she was upset with him it was Arthur Donald Shithead). And her little brother Garry MacKinnon.
Mom was a quiet person but was the rock, the glue that kept us close. We are truly missing her.
Mom loved her kids but loved her grandchildren even more . Time with them was one of her most important things to do. Those grandchildren felt the same. From playing crib to helping in the garden to just being at her home, there was nothing like time with Grandma D.F.
She had a green thumb when it came to her vegetable garden. Even had the knack of finding even the smallest of spots to grow a few things.
There was no better crib team than Darla and Art. They even went to the Alberta Senior Games a couple of times. Darla was a longtime member of the Royal Purple and was especially active in the Stavely chapter.
She hosted the best family and friends get togethers with campfires, playing cards, having a few beers, great food and lots of laughter.
Darla is survived by her children Mark (Debbie) Marshall, Carmin Gajecki, Denise Marshall and step children Brad (Laura) Cates, Crystal Cates and her brother Darrel (Delores) MacKinnon. Her grandchildren, Chad (Tina) Keller, Tyler Keller, Elizabeth (Jon) Anderson, Rebecca (Jeff) Renfrow, Sarah (Eric) Peters, Leah Gajecki. And 11 great grandchildren.
