July 30, 1945 – January 27, 2025 (age 79).
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Art Scott announce his passing on January 27, 2025, at the Claresholm General Hospital.
He was born in Claresholm on July 30, 1945, the first child of Ivan and Margret (Sundquist) Scott, and raised on the family farm west of Stavely with his two brothers Ross and Ken. Being a musical family, the boys would often get the chores done as soon as possible so they could get back in the house to hone their skills on guitars and other stringed instruments.
Art attended SAIT where he studied Heavy Duty Mechanics, graduating in 1966 and working briefly in Calgary, only to return to the farm where he would help his father. In 1968, he travelled to Boseman, Montana to the School of Auctioneering where he would perfect his Auctioneers Chant. On November 16, 1968, Art married his sweetheart Deanna Norby in Stavely where they lived for a time in a small one room house before moving to the farm and raising a family of their own.
He enjoyed farming through thick and thin and made many friends through his auction business Art Scott Auctions (slogan – “Where Friends Meet”). Art served on various boards such as the Wilderness Ranch Camp, Claresholm & District Health Foundation, Peace Lutheran Church and local service clubs including the Stavely Elks and Odd Fellows.
He was always proud of his children and grandchildren and supported and celebrated all accomplishments, big or small, offering sound advice and helping in any way possible. Art will be lovingly remembered by his wife Deanna and their three children, Lori (Dave) Wright, Kathy (Cody) Cockwill, and Ryan (Chantel) Scott, his grandchildren Cade Cockwill, Blaine (Casey) Cockwill, Samantha Wright, Nolan Cockwill, Amy Wright, Will Scott, Fallon Cockwill, and Noah Scott.
Art is survived by his brother Ross (Denise) Scott and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Ivan, mother Margret, and brother Ken.
