With deep sadness, the family of Michael Allen Olmstead announce the sudden passing of their son, father & grandfather. Michael was born in Claresholm, AB on February 4, 1970 and passed away peacefully, at the age of 53, on November 30, 2023.
Michael is survived by his son, Michael Jr.; daughters: Sarah (Kyle); Jamie and Adeline, along with two grandchildren: Tristan and Mea. He is also survived by his parents: Lyle & Jackie Olmstead; Mary Louise & Terry Maudlin (OR) and his fiancée Angie Nelson. Michael leaves behind three siblings: Jonathan (Monique), Donald (Sian) and Denise (Alain); plus several aunts, uncles and numerous cousins, as well.
Although Michael was born in Claresholm, he spent a number of his early years in OR with many of his cousins. The family returned to AB where he made several friends in Calgary, Claresholm and Cardston. He particularly enjoyed doing anything and everything with his brother James.
When his dad married Jackie, Michael enjoyed life on the ranch in Cardston. There were chores to do and he never shirked doing any of them. In fact, he always wanted to know what his dad had planned to do each day! Michael never hesitated to help out his dad with any job.
He married Shirley Alexander and they had four children. He loved being a father very much. He truly loved his children, and maintained a good relationship with his son and grandson, in particular.
Eventually, he earned his ticket to become a journeyman carpenter and was very dedicated to his work. Michael would help out his dad with renovations that may have to be done along with putting in hours at a full time job.
Soon, garage sales called him and he was always checking them out for deals. This turned into searching for antiques, which really became an interest for him.
Michael was predeceased by his brother James and his grandparents Ronald & June Olmstead and Sam & Alice Bowman (OR).
You may donate in Michael’s memory to the Heart & Stoke Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
A private celebration of Michael’s life will be held at a later date.
