November 5, 1948 – June 6, 2023
Jean passed away peacefully at Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm, Alberta on June 6, 2023.
Born on November 5, 1948, in Edmonton, Alberta, Jean was the daughter of Betty and Rev. Dr. John Sorochan. After a brief stay in Calgary, Jean spent a most enjoyable childhood in High River, where her father was the minister at High River United Church. Her early teen years were spent in Edmonton, before moving with her parents to Vancouver, where she graduated from Templeton High School.
Jean worked for a technology company and law firms in Vancouver and Edmonton before returning to her beloved Southern Alberta where she spent most of the last 25 years in Claresholm.
She will be lovingly remembered by her surviving brother Donald and her nephews Neil, Craig, and Kevin Sorochan.
Jean’s life was enhanced and harmonized by the rhythm of music. She developed remarkable skill in playing the pipe organ, initially in her father’s church (Grandview United in Vancouver) and then on the most complex pipe organs in Vancouver. The sight of tiny Jean playing these massive pipe organ consoles and making beautiful music enriched the lives of those around her. Her remarkable gift for playing the organ, and her dedicated service as a church organist will forever resonate in the hearts of the congregations she played for.
Jean had a deep affection for feline companions and found great comfort and companionship in their company. Her home was a sanctuary where cats found warmth and love.
Jean’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Willow Creek for their wonderful care for Jean. We were fortunate to have such a beautiful and caring home for Jean in her final years, The Sorochan family would also like to thank Jean’s Clareholm neighbours, Julia and Gaven Moore, for being so caring and supportive of Jean – going well beyond what it means to be good neighbours.
Rest in peace, Jean.
