August 4, 1935 ~ January 20, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Alvin Kelly announce his passing on Friday, January 20, 2023 in Calgary.
As a boy, Alvin made the trek from Alberta to Port Coquitlam with his family in an old car, finding their future home when they ran out of gas. As a young man Alvin worked in the logging industry, but his love of the water called him to the ocean where he worked on the boats, eventually becoming a respected tugboat captain for many years on the coast of British Columbia. During these years he met and married Marie, merging their families into a busy household with four daughters.
At age of 55, Alvin retired and moved with Marie from the coast to Kootenay Lake. For many years they enjoyed lake living, trips south to Arizona in the winters, and adventures to Italy, Portugal, and Belize. In 2013 Alvin and Marie settled in Claresholm and soon Alvin purchased a 1952 Ford Crestline V8. He spent hours restoring his car, discussing many topics with his coffee friends, and sharing his knowledge with his car club buddies.
Alvin is survived by his loving family, wife Marie; daughters Hope (Ken); Debbie; Gail; Joy (Ken); five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Alvin adored his family and loved sharing his adventurous spirit with them; riding horses, fishing on the boats, searching for pirate treasure he had hidden on the beach, and when there was quiet time offering a nickel to any grandchild who would pull a grey hair from his head.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Zentner Funeral Homes – 4079 1st Street West, Claresholm on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada – 119 14 St NW #100, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6
Marie & Gail would like to thank Officer Chris Vitek for his patience and help during a difficult time. The family is very grateful for all his effort.
