Jay R. Walker
May 9, 1963 – May 20, 2019
With heavy hearts, the family of JAY ROBERT WALKER announces his sudden passing on May 20th, 2019 at age 56 in Burlington, Iowa. Jay will be greatly missed by Joan, his wife of 25 years; his precious daughters: Jacquelyn (Brandon) Hall, Stavely; Jennifer Walker, Saskatoon; and Rachel (Colin) Walker, Calgary. He is also survived by his mother Jane Walker, Lethbridge; sisters-in-law: Janice (Reese) McIntosh, Coaldale; Carolyn (Zane) Taylor, Okotoks; brother-in-law Lee Schwartz, Stavely; his Aunts Ettie Mae Ellis, Lethbridge; Ethel Walker, Tisdale, SK; Alice Anderson, Claresholm; 4 dear nieces, 3 great nieces, numerous cousins & family members and a wealth of close friends.
Jay was predeceased by his father Garnet Walker (2007), his mother-in-law Dolores Schwartz (1999) & his father-in-law Peter Schwartz (2017).
Born in Lethbridge, Jay first lived in Blairmore, AB. The son of an RCMP officer, he lived in various locations around Alberta before coming to Stavely in 1974, when his parents purchased his Grandpa’s farm. Jay finished school in Stavely & Claresholm before earning his CET from Lethbridge College.
Jay farmed with his parents while also working around Southern Alberta, until 1993 when Jay moved back into the family farm home in Stavely, taking over the farm from his parents.
In 1994 Jay & Joan were married and made their life on the farm they love. Together they raised their 3 daughters, Jay’s constant and greatest source of pride.
After years of farming, ranching and working on a few projects near home, including the Pine Coulee Dam & Old Man Dam Hydro Project, Jay started working on Wind Turbine Projects in 2009.
Working for Capital Power Corp. and Alterra Power as the owner’s construction manager, Jay saw the completion of 8 wind farms in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Texas, Kansas & North Dakota. He was currently overseeing a Capital Power Wind project in Illinois.
A Celebration of Jay’s life will be held at the Stavely Community Hall – 5101 52 St, Stavely, AB T0L 1Z0 on Friday, May 31st at 2:00 P.M.
