Dimm, Marilyn Joyce

June 22, 1931 – November 25, 2025
Surrounded by family, Marilyn Dimm passed away peacefully in Claresholm, Alberta, at 94 years of age.
Marilyn was born in Chegoggin, NS to a fishing family, and was raised in nearby Sandford, NS. Marilyn attended Teacher’s College in Truro, NS, and then taught in Yarmouth, NS, and Knowlton, PQ, before taking the train west to Granum, Alberta, which would be her home for nearly the next seven decades.
A long-time teacher and school librarian, Marilyn was known as
“Mrs. Dimm” to generations of children in the Granum schools. The “Ride The Wind” balloon launch days were annual traditions, as were visits to the school from many Albertan and Canadian authors. Marilyn operated a bed and breakfast in her ranch home for nearly 20 years, from which came many enduring friendships.
Marilyn was part of the Granum, “Sewettes” group, with nearly twenty other ladies, as well as a member of the Royal Purple, Eastern Star, and leader of the local CGIT. Marilyn will be remembered for her amazing flower and vegetable gardens, artwork, sewing, baking and love of reading.
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Joel and Hazel Smith, her brother Clifford Smith, sister Shirley Tokai, and by former spouse (deceased) Harvey Dimm, and two sons who passed shortly after birth. Marilyn is survived by her daughter Jocelyn Dimm, son Clifford (Ronda) Dimm, granddaughters Madeleine and Holly Dimm, sister Barbara Rawlins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service and reception to be held Saturday, November 29, at 1:00pm, at Zentner Funeral Homes, 4079 1 St. W, Claresholm, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Granum Public Library in her name.
