Ron was born in Regina, SK on December 20, 1928. He attended high school in Kathyrn, Alberta. At 19 he began a highly successful career in construction including six homes for his family. He met Hellen Martin while both were working in Calgary. They married in Hill Spring, Alberta on August 25, 1950. That year he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1953 they were sealed in the Cardston, Alberta Temple for time and all eternity. Ron and Hellen were partners, dedicated to having a happy, loving home and family. Church came next. They taught their children how to work, to have a positive attitude, and instilled ideas such as: “If you don’t know how, learn.”
In 1962, Ron and Hellen were called to serve a building mission in Dundee, Scotland for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). They were accompanied by their four children: Jim, 11; Linda, 9; John, 4; and Bob, 9 months. Ron supervised the building of the Dundee Chapel until 1965 when he became Assistant Area Supervisor of Northern England. He became the Regional Manager and Area Manager of the Building Program for the British Isles and Eire until May 1969 when the family returned to Calgary.
Ron and Hellen fell in love with fish and chips in Dundee. They opened Deep Sea Fish and Chips on the north side of Calgary in 1969 and a second location in the south. Both restaurants were highly successful until sold in 1979.
Ron worked for the LDS Church as their Physical Facilities Representative for Canada. He travelled extensively supervising the construction of chapels, meeting with architects, engineers, and ecclesiastical leaders. After working for 50 years, he retired at age 67.
Ron served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a branch president, five times as a High Priest Group Leader, three times on the High Council, and was a dedicated home teacher. His last calling was as Executive Secretary in a bishopric from ages 87 to 90.
Ron was a master craftsman and hard worker. In 2007, at the age of 79, he and Hellen planned their final home in Claresholm, Alberta. A young man he hired to help commented: “He worked all three of us ‘under the table!’ We couldn’t keep up!” Ron completed the home in 2008.
A private family funeral is planned with internment in Claresholm, Alberta. Full obituary on the website for McInnis-Holloway
