April 1, 1957 – January 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Margie Derksen (nee Margaret Ann Howard), announces her sudden death on January 5, 2024 in Claresholm, Alberta.
Margie, who was born April 1, 1957 in Springdale, Newfoundland, was a loving wife and best friend to Cornie, who recognized his soulmate when he met her, and they were married for 42 years. She is mother to Susan Postill (Barry), Kyra LaRose (Darren), and Johnelle Hogan (Chris), and grandmother to Cassie (Liam), Andrew (Nikita), Charlie and Ollie and she is great-grandmother to Sean and Khloe.
Her only sibling, Terri MacKinnon, has lost her best friend. Margie will also be missed by extended family including the large Derksen family, Cornie’s brothers, their wives and the Derksen nieces, nephews and cousins. And on Margie’s side, in addition to her sister, her nephew David (Tammy) and family.
Her parents, John and Monica Howard predeceased her in the late 1980s.
Margie was a skilled Certified Herbalist and Reiki Master/teacher, with an innate ability to help others, whether it was a regular client/friend or a stranger in a restaurant sharing their grief. People reached out to her and with her calmness, knowledge and wisdom she helped others heal.
Being close to family was important and brought them back from Kimberly, BC in 2019 to settle in Claresholm. Since Cornie’s retirement, their garden gave them joy, whether it was growing flowers and herbs for Margie’s medicinal use, or potatoes for Cornie’s dinner.
At Margie’s request there will not be a funeral, but a private Celebration of her life held in the summer.
