1957 – 2024
It is with great sadness that his wife and the family of Douglas Matthew (Smith) Bowman announces his unexpected passing on Sunday, August 4, 2024 in Claresholm, AB.
Doug leaves behind his loving wife, Debbie Kurtz; his mother Barbara Ann Smith; siblings: James Fredrick Smith (Pauline Chambers), Jennifer Ann Peers (Rick Peers) and Morgan Bradford Smith (Sherri Ritchie); five nieces and nephews, five grand nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father James Keith Smith (2002) and father-in-law Henry Kurtz (2008).
He also leaves behind his mother-in-law Donna Kurtz and many Kurtz relatives from Debbie’s family including several sisters and brothers-in law and nieces and nephews.
Doug was born in Edmonton on January 22, 1957. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier High School in 1974 and gained his photography accreditation at N.A.I.T. in the early 80s.
Doug married Debbie Kurtz in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in 2001. He was a professional photographer (owning Archer Photoworks, Claresholm) and taught photography classes at the University of Calgary for over a decade. A Board Member and Official Photographer and active volunteer at the Nanton Bomber Command Museum for many years. He was a successful Realtor and Broker Owner in partnership with Debbie at their brokerage Homes for All Realty, doing real estate sales, property management and he owned a very successful home inspection company, Archer Inspections, in Calgary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 4304 2 Street West, followed by a luncheon. He will be laid to rest at the Cowley cemetery with his father.
Memorial donations can be made to Heart and Stoke Association (www.heartandstroke.ca) in lieu of flowers.
