1930-2022
Jacob (Jake) Sorensen Whitehead was born March 7, 1930 in Cardston, AB and passed away at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm at the age of 92 on December 23, 2022.
He was predeceased by his twin brother James (Jim), parents Samuel and Blanche, his sister Stella and brothers Lee-Noy, George, Alfred and Buddy Whitehead.
Jake grew up in Claresholm and he and his brother Jim served a
two-year proselyting mission in South Africa for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Later, they moved to Calgary, taking their parents with them to provide the care they needed in their new home. Jake and Jim also completed school in barbering and had a small shop in Altadore where they worked and eventually set up a shop at home. In the late nineties, they moved back to Claresholm and continued barbering.
Jake and his brother Jim were known for their remarkable talent of singing as a duet and for decades would perform for their customers, sing at weddings, funerals, anniversaries and other events when asked. They had a talent for planting and growing beautiful vegetable and flower gardens through the years, while also helping neighbours and friends with yard work. They were very hard workers, generous with family and friends and provided service in many different ways.
At the request of Jake, there will be no funeral but an interment will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 1:30 PM at the Claresholm Cemetery.
