It is with great sadness that we announce Del (Deloy) Allen, beloved husband of Carolyne Allen, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday,
October 23, 2021, at the age of 82.
Del was born in Foremost, Alberta, on March 8, 1939 and did all of his schooling in Lethbridge and then Calgary, where he studied to be a journeyman electrician at SAIT. Del met Carolyne in March of 1968, and they were married four years later on March 25, 1972, in Lethbridge, Alberta.
In 1973, Del and Carolyne moved to Page, Arizona, where Del first worked on the Navajo Generating Plant and then the Cholla Power Plant in Holbrook, and they spent nearly ten years in Arizona. Other than Arizona, Del worked in many places as a construction electrician in BC, Northwest Territories, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
When the Allens moved back to Canada, they decided on Picture Butte and then settled in Claresholm. Del completed the last ten years of his career in Fort McMurray, retiring at the age of 69 – although he would have kept going if he could, he loved his trade. Sadly, he developed dementia not long after retirement, with the last few years being a tremendous struggle for him.
Del is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carolyne; and his brother Don; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who visited often.
He is predeceased by his parents Helen and Pete Allen, brothers Tom and Pork (Delerith), his mother-in-law Kathleen Pierson, father-in-law Howard Pierson and brother-in-law Keith Pierson.
Del was dearly loved by his friends and family and will be missed by many.
Donations may be made in Del’s memory to The Alzheimer Society of Alberta (#306, 10430 – 61 Ave, Edmonton, Alberta T6H 2J3).
