Robert W. B. Taylor passed away peacefully on April 7, 2018 at the age of 78.
He is lovingly survived by his wife Kathleen, his four children: Don, Bob, Cyndy (Mike), Jim (Sue); four step sons James (Janine), Matthew (Lisa), Stuart (Beth), John (Katy); his older brother Don, younger sisters Margaret, Lynda and 27 grandchildren. Bob is predeceased by his parents Byron (1974), Margaret (1986).
Bob was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick on May 26, 1939 and spent his early years there before moving to Moncton, New Brunswick where he attended Moncton High School. In his senior year he received the Birks Gold Medal for Leadership in Student Affairs for his accomplishments as the President of Students Council. The YMCA was the local hangout where Bob served a year as the President of the Delta High Y Club.
He went on to earn his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Mount Allison University while part of the Canadian Officer’s Training Corp where he was appointed the Second Lieutenant for 3 and a half years. These achievements served as a strong foundation for a successful business career that included leadership positions with Pfizer Canada (Comptroller), Avis Canada (President), and the City of Calgary Parking Authority (General Manager).
Bob loved the outdoors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He became an avid runner participating in several organized races. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to take up running as a way to stay healthy.
Bob was an active member the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. His friendly and outgoing personality was admired by all who knew him. He was always quick to lend a helping hand to those in need. A true gentleman, Bob faced the difficulties associated with ALS with strength and gratitude for the good things in his life.
Bob’s entire family wishes to express its gratitude for the amazing staff at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre in Claresholm who provided outstanding care throughout Bob’s illness.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Claresholm, Alberta located at 4924-3rd Street East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Alberta (7874 10 St NE, Calgary, AB T2E 8W1) in the name of Bob Taylor.
