Bingham, Marlys

May 17, 1929 – April 14, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Marlys Francis Bingham announce her passing on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the age of 90.
She is survived by her three children: Ken (Trish), Noreen (Bob), and Brian (Melodie), Dean Smith; five grandchildren: Carey (Debby), Desmond (Rochelle), Jenna (Mike), Dekota and Chris (Gail). She was blessed with four great grandchildren: Kaley, Eric, Marahia and Trenten.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Ken in 2009, brother Boyd, sister Candas Leaturce, and nephew George.
Marlys was the third eldest child of George and Mildred Smith, born on May 17, 1929. Along with her two brothers and three sisters, she grew up on her parent’s farm in the Success area of Saskatchewan. Mom’s early education began in the rural Fairhills School which required the children to ride their horses to school. Mom used to tell us the story of her eldest brother, Boyd, breaking up a fight that Mom would have with one of the other school children.
When Mom was seventeen, she ventured out on her own and worked at the Fort Qu’Appele Sanitarium in Saskatchewan. Later on, she moved to Toronto to take the certified nursing assistant course. After graduation, Mom moved back to Saskatchewan settling in Maple Creek, nursing at the hospital there.
Soon after her move, she met Dad at a country dance, and they married November 19, 1953. They resided in Swift Current until 1975 when they made the move to Claresholm, followed by Olds, Calgary and back to Claresholm in 1993 where they lived with their daughter Noreen and their grandson Chris.
When her husband Ken passed away, mom lived with daughter Noreen and her husband Bob until she moved to long term care in April of 2018.
